Replacement windows in Partridge Green

Partridge Green is in West Grinstead parish, south of Horsham, where the B2135 meets the High Street. The original medieval settlement was Jolesfield. The village itself began to grow in 1861, when the railway from Horsham to Shoreham arrived, and kept growing until the line closed in 1966. The station inn became The Partridge, and the trackbed is now the Downs Link, a bridleway along the side of the village popular with cyclists and walkers. St Michael and All Angels Church was built in 1890 to keep pace with the growing population.

The West Grinstead neighbourhood plan describes 18th and 19th century housing along the main roads, faster growth after the stations opened, and two industrial estates south of the High Street in the second half of the 20th century, one of which began as an egg packing station in 1945. The parish had 3,054 residents and 1,260 households in 2011. The plan classes Partridge Green as a medium village and names roads such as St George's Road and Meyers Wood Road among the later housing.

Planning

Partridge Green does not appear on Horsham District Council's list of conservation areas. The West Grinstead conservation area surrounds St George's Church, away from the village. A group of four listed buildings stands on Church Road south of the village; any change to their windows needs listed building consent. For most houses in Partridge Green, like-for-like replacement is permitted development.

What gets fitted here

The Victorian railway-era houses along the High Street and main roads suit uPVC sliding sashes or flush casements, depending on what they were built with. The later estates suit chamfered uPVC casements. Houses facing the B2135 may want acoustic glazing.
